Biblioplatges & Bibliopiscines de Calvià
Every summer the Ajuntament de Calvià takes reading out of the library and down to the water. The Biblioplatja parks a mobile library — a "Biblioroulotte" designed by students at IES Bendinat — on the Caleta de Portals Nous, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 14:30 throughout July and August, lending books and issuing library cards right on the sand. The Bibliopiscina sets up a mini-library inside the Es Capdellà municipal pool, Mondays and Thursdays from 16:00 to 20:00, so swimmers can read between dips. For younger children, the beach library adds sessions of children's animation — traditional games and storytelling run by the Esment programme — on 2, 9, 14 and 23 July from 10:00. Everything is free: a service of Calvià's IMEB (municipal institute of education and libraries) to keep the reading habit alive over the holidays.
