About

On June 24, the feast of Saint John the Baptist, a man dressed in a sheepskin and carrying a live lamb dances through the streets of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar as part of the town's patron saint festivities. The figure represents Saint John the Baptist, who according to Christian tradition lived in the desert dressed in animal skins. This dance is declared an Intangible Asset of Cultural Interest (ACI) by the Govern de les Illes Balears and is one of Mallorca's most unique traditions, with historical documentation dating back to the 16th century. The celebration includes a mass, a procession through the town streets accompanied by dimonis, Sonadors and Sa Xerebanda, and pre-festival events on the eve of June 23.
