Festes de la Beata — Vilafranca de Bonany 2026
The Festes de la Beata are the great patronal fiesta of Vilafranca de Bonany, held in the last week of July around the feast of Santa Catalina Tomàs — "la Beata" (28 July). Born in the late 18th century to mark the end of the reaping and threshing, they are the biggest celebration of the village's year. Their most iconic moment is the Sortida del Dimoni. To the sound of xeremies (Mallorcan bagpipes), tambor and flabiol, the demon bursts out from the Ajuntament and leads a street passacarrers, chased by costumed caparrots and young revellers weaving through the crowd. Xeremiers and caparrots animate the town throughout the fiesta, alongside concerts, sport, children's activities and a Mass in honour of the Beata. New for 2026 is "La Beata en petit", a children's recreation of the Sortida del Dimoni on Sunday 26 July at 19:00, with local kids (aged 11–12) playing miniature demons, caparrots, the llenderer and young xeremiers departing from the Town Hall. The summer programme opens with the Ruta desTAPA't a l'estiu (15th edition) on Friday 24 July from 18:30: nine local bars and restaurants serve a tapa and a drink for €20 with the route card, with a free Tapabus shuttle along the Palma road and a strong tradition of turning out in costume.
