Festes de Sant Llorenç
The Festes de Sant Llorenç are the patron-saint festa of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, a small town in the Llevant of Mallorca. They fall in the second week of August around the feast of Saint Lawrence on 10 August, and turn the whole village over to a week of open-air night parties, fire, folk dance and community rituals. The programme leans on a handful of consolidated fixtures: a late-night correfoc fire-run led by the Manafoc devils, the long-running Cursa Popular Nocturna road race, and the Fira Nocturna a l'Estació — a night fair at the town's former railway station, opened by the local gegants and the Xerebanda street band. The plaça de l'Ajuntament hosts the revetles: tribute bands, DJs and live acts that in some years run right through to sunrise, alongside the town band's own gala concert and the opening pregó. The devotional heart of the festa is 10 August itself: a solemn Mass in honour of Sant Llorenç at the parish church in the evening, followed by a demonstration of ball mallorquí and an open ballada popular with the local folk-dance groups in the main square. Daytime belongs to families — popular games, a foam party, water games at the municipal pool and children's entertainment. It is a free, public town celebration; only a few promoter-run concerts (in past years, big Catalan-rock names) are separately ticketed. Organised by the Ajuntament de Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
