Festes del Carme
Festes del Carme is Mallorca's great seafaring fiesta, held each July in honour of the Verge del Carme — patron saint of fishermen and sailors. After mass, a fleet of decorated boats and llaüts carries her effigy out for a maritime procession around the harbour, answered by fireworks over the water and music on the quay. It is celebrated across the island's fishing ports — Cala Rajada, Port de Sóller, Portocolom, Porto Cristo, Cala Figuera, Cala Bona and Port d'Andratx among them — with the main day falling on or around 16 July. In Cala Rajada, one of the liveliest editions, the Associació Festes del Carme runs close to a fortnight of celebrations (1–16 July in 2026): an opening pregó and choral concert, open-air verbenas and concerts, a batucada, traditional ball de bot, a giant community paella for some 500 neighbours, and children's entertainment — building to the boats, mass, procession and fireworks of El Carme itself.
