Katharina Grosse: Arrels
German artist Katharina Grosse turns La Llotja de Palma into one enormous painting with Arrels, an ambitious site-specific intervention on view from 28 May 2026 to 31 January 2027. Grosse builds a landscape of earth mounds and a vast tree — uprooted and half-buried — and covers the whole scene in colour until the lines between nature, sculpture, architecture and paint dissolve. Unable to physically touch the protected 15th-century building, she instead converts its entire interior into a surface for painting, where "everything is painting." The exhibition is a co-production of the Govern de les Illes Balears and Es Baluard Museu, curated by David Barro.
