La Trapa from Sant Elm
At the wild south-western tip of Mallorca, the walk from Sant Elm up to La Trapa trades crowds for a half-ruined Trappist monastery perched above the sea. The monks left in 1820; what remains — terraces, an old mill and stone buildings slowly returning to the hillside — sits on a clifftop with one of the island's great views, straight across the channel to the rugged islet of Sa Dragonera. The route is moderate but with bite: a steady climb on stony mountain path, some exposed coastal sections, and full sun most of the way. It is a favourite for good reason, linking sea, history and a proper sense of remoteness without needing technical skill. Many walkers make a loop of it; bring water and sun protection, as the exposed terrain offers little shade.
