About

The Santuari de Lluc, in the municipality of Escorca, is the spiritual heart of Mallorca: founded in the 13th century, it was the first monastery in the Balearic Islands dedicated to the Virgin. Set right in the centre of the Serra de Tramuntana, surrounded by mountains, it features a visitor centre, shops, several bars and restaurants (Sa Fonda, S'Amitger, Sa Font Coberta) and hiking trails that start from the grounds themselves — the most popular climbs to Es Camell, a karst rock shaped like a camel. For the motorhome route, this is the natural overnight stop for the second day. The sanctuary car park (paid) is peaceful and set within nature; next to it is a campsite managed by IBANAT with services for motorhomes — waste and water disposal and cold-water showers — and, in the adjoining recreation area, fountains and barbecues. It is also one of the few places on the island where camping is permitted with prior authorisation. Entry to the grounds and the basilica is free.
