About

Saturday brings Sóller's weekly market to the most photogenic setting in the Tramuntana: Plaça de sa Constitució, shaded by tall plane trees and overlooked by the ornate façade of the church of Sant Bartomeu, with stalls flowing on to Plaça des Mercat and the surrounding streets. It is a generous, varied market — fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses, cured meats, olives and pastries, plenty of flowers and plants, and the valley's celebrated Sóller oranges turned into juice, jam and liqueur — mixed with clothing, leather goods, jewellery and artisan crafts. It runs 09:00 to 14:00, liveliest mid-morning. Parking in the centre is notoriously tight on market day, so the classic approach is to ride in on the vintage wooden Sóller train from Palma or the seafront tram from Port de Sóller, which makes the trip an outing in itself.
