Total Solar Eclipse over Mallorca — Public Viewing with AstroMallorca
On 12 August 2026 a total solar eclipse sweeps across the south of Mallorca — the first total eclipse visible from the island in generations. For a little over a minute and a half, just before sunset, the Moon slides fully across the Sun, the sky darkens, the temperature drops and the stars come out over the Mediterranean before the light returns. In Calvià, the Asociación Astronómica de Mallorca (AstroMallorca) and the Biblioteques de Calvià frame the event with free public workshops — the Taller dels Eclipsis — that explain how an eclipse works and, above all, how to watch it without harming your eyes. The municipality has designated Santa Ponça beach as its official observation zone (Zona d'Observació Oficial) with a special plan for a safe, orderly viewing.
