Mallorca's summer fairs

Apricots, herbs, livestock and craft — the village fires that fill a Mallorcan early summer, plus the seafront night market that runs all season.

By the Thril editors

Mallorca's weekly markets run all year — but the fira is a summer creature. As the season turns, villages across the island throw a one- or two-day fair built around whatever they're known for: the fruit in the orchards, the herbs on the hillsides, the animals in the fields, the craft in the old workshops. They're free, they're loud, and they're the most local thing you can do on a warm weekend. This is a shortlist of six. **Porreres** piles its tables high for the Fira de l'Albercoc, the apricot fair at the peak of the harvest. Up in the Tramuntana foothills, **Selva** scents its streets with the Fira de les Herbes. **Son Servera** brings the countryside into town with an agricultural and livestock fair the kids will love, while **Lloseta** honours its shoemaking heritage at the long-running Fira de sa Sabata. After dark, **sa Pobla** turns its famous potato into a night fair, and down on the coast the **Port d'Alcúdia summer night market** runs along the seafront from June right through to autumn. Most of these land in the first half of summer, often the same few June weekends — so check the dates and you can sometimes string two together. Go hungry, go curious, and let the town show you what it's proud of.
