Festa des Vermar

Plaça de l'Església, Binissalem

The Festa des Vermar in Binissalem is Mallorca's most traditional grape-harvest festival, held over the second half of September in honour of the Binissalem Denomination of Origin wine region. Its most famous moment is the Gran Batalla de Raïm — a mass, playful grape battle in which villagers and visitors pelt each other with some 10,000 kilos of leftover harvest grapes — alongside the grape-treading contest (Concurs de Trepitjar Raïm), wine tastings, parades and the communal Fideus de Vermar supper. Practical: Binissalem · second half of September (exact 2026 grape-battle date to be confirmed) · the Gran Batalla de Raïm runs on the Saturday around midday and the grape-treading contest on the Sunday evening · most events free · wear old clothes you don't mind staining · from Palma by SFM train line T1 (Palma–Inca), stopping at Binissalem.

The festival's signature event: a mass, playful grape battle in which villagers and visitors pelt each other with some 10,000 kilos of leftover harvest grapes, held on the Saturday around midday.
Grape-treading contest
In the Concurs de Trepitjar Raïm, pairs tread barefoot to squeeze as much juice as possible from sacks of grapes against the clock — traditionally on the Sunday evening.
Binissalem DO wine tastings
Binissalem gives its name to one of the Balearics' oldest and most important wine Denominations of Origin, and the festival features tastings of new and aged local wines.
Fideus de Vermar supper
A communal harvest meal of fideus de vermar — a traditional Mallorcan dish of noodles with lamb and spices — served to the crowd, usually alongside the grape-battle day.

Wear old clothes and shoes you don't mind staining purple — the grape battle is famously messy, and the council even sets up mobile showers so participants can rinse off afterwards.
The Gran Batalla de Raïm is the highlight of the festival's main weekend, typically on a Saturday around midday; the grape-treading contest follows on the Sunday evening.
Come from Palma by train: SFM line T1 (Palma–Inca) stops at Binissalem, departing from the Estació Intermodal at Plaça d'Espanya.
