Zuloaga / Anglada-Camarasa: Two Visions of Modernity

CaixaForum Palma, Plaça de Weyler 3, Palma

Two of the great painters of turn-of-the-century Europe met at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition and stayed friends for life. This exhibition sets Ignacio Zuloaga (1870–1945) and Hermen Anglada-Camarasa (1871–1959) side by side — twenty-six works, thirteen by each — so you can read the coincidences and the contrasts between them. Zuloaga is the sober one: austere, dramatic, rooted in a realist Spanish tradition. Anglada-Camarasa is his opposite — luminous, decorative, a colourist with Orientalist echoes. Alongside the canvases, personal correspondence and photographs trace the friendship that connected two opposite temperaments. The pairing lands with special force in Palma: Anglada-Camarasa spent decades painting in Port de Pollença, and his work forms CaixaForum Palma's permanent collection. Practical: Open daily 10:00–20:00 · runs until 10 January 2027 · admission 6 €, free for CaixaBank customers and under-16s.
