A 400-year-old working olive-oil mill and family house in the Sóller valley, with daily guided tours and tastings

Can Det is a 400-year-old family house and olive-oil mill in the Sóller valley — the oldest mill in Mallorca still pressing oil the traditional way, with grinding wheels and hydraulic presses. Documents tie the family to oil and citrus here since 1525, and seventeen generations have carried the work on; the mill, restored and electrified in 1942, still turns three conical stones on a stone base 2.5 metres across, the only olive mill in the Balearics using this system. A guided hour-long tour walks the historic house, the garden and the mill, ending with a tasting in the family dining room — Mallorcan 'ramallet' bread, Can Det olives, tomatoes, homemade orange jam, roasted almonds and freshly squeezed orange juice. Tours run in Spanish, English and German, and between mid-October and mid-January visitors may catch the oil actually being pressed.
