Mallorca's bookshop just for kids
Baobab is Mallorca's first — and only — bookshop dedicated exclusively to children's and young-adult literature. It opened in Palma's old town on 4 December 2006 and, in August 2017, moved into a bright 200 m² space on Carrer Guillem Galmés that doubles as a neighbourhood cultural hub. The name is a nod to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince and its baobab trees. Shelves run from board books for babies through comics, graphic novels and young-adult fiction in Catalan and Spanish, and the team's guiding belief is that there's no child who doesn't enjoy reading — they just haven't found the right book yet. Beyond the shelves, Baobab runs a full programme of kids' activities: Thursday Baoart art workshops, plasticine storytelling, reading clubs, school visits and birthday parties. In 2026 the shop celebrates its 20th anniversary.
