Start at the Teatro Romano, the 1st-century Roman theatre uncovered at the foot of the Alcazaba — a quick, free stop that sets the scene. Then climb into the Alcazaba, the 11th-century Moorish fortress-palace of gardens, courtyards and views over the port. Finish a few blocks away at the Catedral de Málaga, "La Manquita", where a kids-only audio tour tells the funny side of the building's history. The three sit within a few hundred metres of one another, so this is one relaxed morning on foot rather than a day of criss-crossing the city — ideal with children, and best done early before the summer heat.

All three sit within a few hundred metres of each other — do them in one easy morning before the heat, and pick up the Cathedral's kids-only audio guide so the little ones get the funny version of the history.
