Coves d'Artà

Coves d'Artà

High on the cliffs above Canyamel, the Coves d'Artà are the most dramatic of Mallorca's show caves: the mouth opens straight onto the sea, and a vast Mediterranean view waits again as you step back out. The guided visit climbs through cathedral-scale chambers — the Hall of Columns, the Hall of the Queen of Columns with its 17-metre stalagmite, and The Glory, whose roof reaches roughly 45 metres. In the Hall of Hell, long said to have inspired the underground descent in Jules Verne's writing, a short light-and-sound show plays inside the rock. The route runs more than 700 metres and takes 35–40 minutes, with a guide leading each group in about every half hour. Practical: Adults €17 · children 7–12 €10 · under-7s free (Balearic residents €13/€8) · open daily 10:00–18:00 May–Oct, 10:00–17:00 Nov–Apr · commentary in Spanish, English, French and German.
