About

The Archduke's Path is the most cinematic ridge walk in Mallorca. Laid out in 1883 by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria — purely so he could admire his beloved coast from the clifftops — the Camí de s'Arxiduc climbs out of Valldemossa to a high, exposed escarpment that runs above the sea, with the Foradada headland and, on clear days, the whole north-west coast laid out below. Done as a circular from Valldemossa (Mirador de ses Basses → Es Caragolí ridge → Pla des Pouet → Coma de Cairats), it is about 9–10 km with roughly 700 m of climb and takes 4–5 hours; the start is steep and relentless and the ridgeline is rocky and unguarded in places, so it needs decent fitness, proper boots and a head for heights. It can also be walked point-to-point down to Deià (≈12 km). Go on a clear, not-too-windy day — the views are the whole point, and the exposed sections are no place to be in cloud or strong gusts.
