S'Albufera is the largest wetland in the Balearics — 1,600-plus hectares of reed beds, canals and lagoons behind the dunes of Playa de Muro — and the easiest "wild" walk on the island for families. The paths are flat, wide and buggy-friendly, and the reward is birds: over 300 species have been recorded here, watched from a string of hides and observation platforms. Pick up a free permit and a map at the Sa Roca reception centre (open ~09:00–16:00) and choose from four self-guided itineraries — the short Sa Roca, Cibollar and Es Colombars loops each take only 30–45 minutes, while the Camí d'Enmig–Ses Puntes route is longer. Admission is free; cars park outside and it's a flat ~1 km walk in to reception. Bring binoculars, mosquito repellent and water; spring and autumn migrations are the showpiece, but there's something on the water year-round.
